KnowBe4
To bolster their ambitious sales drive into the African region, KnowBe4 turned to Red Ribbon Communications to create a stand-out narrative on cybersecurity awareness.
Taking inspiration from a lack of research and statistics on cybersecurity awareness in Africa, our 2019 KnowBe4 African Cybersecurity Awareness Report revealed the pressing need to educate Africans on the different types of cyber threats.
Starting with research of more than 800 respondents across 8 countries in Africa – including South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritius and Botswana – we created a multimedia content campaign providing compelling news angles, thought leadership and content for a report.
The KnowBe4 African Cybersecurity Awareness Report and accompanying campaign ultimately secured coverage in several tier 1 publications across Africa such as IOL, ITWeb Africa, Biztech Africa, City Press, Die Burger, Beeld, Le Mauricien and CNBC Africa, as well as notable TV news channels such as the SABC and eNCA.
The research proved to be of so much value it is now an annual report. In 2023 the report was expanded to include statistics around awareness of other cybersecurity-related topics such as deepfakes and cryptocurrency scams. These separate survey results were released in one comprehensive report.
Over the years Anna Collard, SVP Content Strategy & Evangelist at KnowBe4 AFRICA, use the data from the reports to present at webinars across the continent. The results have also been referenced in other papers like Interpol's Cyber Threat assessment for Africa.
